We've never had a operable RAID on our SMS. DO sites that have RAID run into the computers after say, 6 months, start slowing down, where jams don't report quickly and odd errors show up caused by nothing? Since we run a single drive I'm wondering if it gets overloaded while a RAIDED machine wouldn't. Every raided sms we build fails right away. Any thoughts on this???

The SMS uses a RAID 1 configuration which is drive mirroring. RAID 1 writes the same data to both drives at the same time so running only one drive wouldn't slow processing down. The symptoms you report are typical of a corrupt database, overheating or a hard drive is starting to fail. Make sure the CPU fans are working and the computer should be blown out at fairly regular intervals. If you wipe the hard drive and reinstall the software or install a new hard drive make sure to NOT restore a possibly corrupt database to the new drive. If your RAID builds are failing, make sure you are installing identical drives and install a new RAID interface card. That's all for now.

Thanks MDA! I'll pass that info along to our build crew.
